Emma's Furisode

This work centres on the Japanese coming-of-age ceremony known as Seijinshiki, observed on a public holiday to commemorate individuals reaching adulthood, typically at the age of twenty. During this ceremony, women traditionally wear the furisode kimono.

It represents the artist's interpretation of the traditional garment and serving as a reflection of her bi-racial identity. Despite the inability to participate in traditional cultural events, she finds a form of participation through the construction of her works, influenced by Western experiences.
